Audience Feedback

Audience Feedback

Are you male or female?

As my artist is female, I did think my music video and ancillary texts would be more appropriate for a female audience therefore I asked more females to fill in the questionnaires than males.

How old are you?

My target age group was ages 16-19 therefore I asked most people of this age group to fill in the feedback questionnaires. However, I decided to ask people from different age groups to see if they can understand my product therefore giving my product a wider audience to appeal too.

After watching the music video I have made what do you think of the narrative (story) of the music video?

I was pleased with the answers I received from this question as it proves that the difficult narrative I was trying to convey in the music video had been recognised. Some examples of the responses to this question are; ‘A form of love and loss’, ‘A dead spirit what isn’t leaving her alone’, ‘loneliness’, ‘a sad story that clearly shows that someone has died and that they are angry about it and cant let go’. These are all elements of the narrative that I was trying to get across through my video.

Do you think the music video reflects the lyrics of the song?

I was pleased to see this as it shows that my job of trying to reflect song lyrics through a music video was successful.

What genre do you think the music video is?

I was pleased to see that everyone asked recognised the genre of my music video. This proves that the codes and conventions I used reinforced the genre making recognisable to the audience.

Did you enjoy watching the video?

I am very happy that everyone asked enjoyed watching my music video, showing that I was successful in my attempt at making a music video for my target audience to enjoy.

What would you change about the music video?

I thought this question was very important as it allows me to get feedback on how I could have been able to improve my music video and what my target audience thought didn’t work as well. I am pleased to say that the majority of people asked said that they would change ‘nothing’ about the music video however some people said that it needed ‘more black and white shots’, I interpreted this as this person thought the black and white shots were more effective than the coloured therefore needed more to improve my video. Another person said that ‘the colours in the graveyard scene should be darker to fit the genre’. This is understandable as the gothic genre is conventionally dark throughout the full music video however I wanted to be unconventional and have some shots brighter than others to have connotations of love.

What do you think about the artist’s performance?

Comments made on the artist’s performance were all positive, for example ‘she matched the genre of the song well and she also knew the song well and suited the part’. I was also pleased with many other comments made; ‘very good’, ‘looks very realistic’, ‘involved with the camera’, ‘certainly looked good’. These comments were important at the artist is the main focus in the music video and had the difficult challenge of making the artist seem believable.

Would you buy the music video on iTunes?

I was pleased to see that the majority of people asked said they would buy the music video on iTunes however I understand why people said no as they can watch the video for free via Web.2.0 website such as www.youtube.com therefore wouldn’t have to pay for it to watch it whenever they wanted.

After looking at my Digipak do you think it reflects the music video and song?

I wanted the Digipak to reflect the music video and lyrics to the song as all three of my media texts should work together as a whole. As everyone asked said yes, I feel the techniques I used such as showing continuity through the use of mis-en-scene and colour, worked how I wanted it too.

Do you think this looks like a real Digipak?

Again, I was happy to see that everyone thought that the Digipak looked like a real Digipak. This must be because of the Digipak conventions I used for example main images of the artist, track listings, barcodes, music labels etc.

If there is anything, what would you change about the Digipak?

From these questionnaires I found that the text on my digipak could have been improved for example, the font used for the album name and artist’s name. I also found that the name of the artist could have been changed to fit the genre more accordingly. I also didn’t include the price on the digipak which is important for the consuming audience as they will want to know how much it is before purchasing.

What do you like most about the Digipak?

Most people liked the consistency of the Digipak as the black and white colour scheme runs throughout, as does the red theme. One person recognised the ‘Bokeh’ effect used behind the artists name on one of the images which was used to again show continuity. The majority of the people asked thought that the images were the most effective part of the digipak, one person really liked the ‘face close ups’.

Can you tell what genre the music is from the Digipak?

Again, the audience all thought that the genre was recognisable from this digipak, this is because of the conventions I used for example the gravestones, black and white images, gothic font etc.

Does the magazine advertisement include all of the information you would need?

If not, what is missing?

The lower majority of people that thought something was missing from the magazine advertisement all said that it was missing the price of the album. Again this is an important piece of information as it could determine the sale of the album. I missed out this convention of album magazine advertisements and if I were to make it again I would include it underneath the release date.

Does this look like a real magazine advertisement for a new music album?

I was pleased to see that everyone asked thought that the magazine advertisement looked real as I used the conventions of an album magazine advertisement for example main image, image of the album, subheadings including reviews and release date, headlines consisting of the name of the album and artist. I also included a website and retailer for the audience to buy the album from.

Can you tell what genre the music is from this advertisement?

Again the genre was recognised because of the conventions of the gothic rock genre I used such as gravestones, costume, gothic fonts and colour scheme.

What do you like most about the magazine advertisement?

Everyone asked liked the main image the most which I was really pleased about as this image was also used for the back cover of the Digipak. Another positive comment made was the consistency of the magazine advertisement from the digipak and music video.

Do the music video, Digipak and magazine advertisement all show continuity and reflect each other?

For me, this was the most important question asked as I needed my Music video, Magazine advertisement and Digipak to combine together as a whole. This meant that I needed them to reflect each other and show continuity through all three media texts. As everyone asked answered yes, it proves that as a whole I have done my job properly and the mistakes I made didn’t affect my overall product.
